Abstract
Developmental psychology as well as sports science has been neglecting the infant’s motor system. There is a gap between the ascribed importance and the deficient state of the research. Empirical studies form a necessary basis for pedagogical as well as therapeutic decisions (Montada 1987). Although developmental psychology offers a number of critical models of cognitive and social development in infants (compare Beller 1987), empirical confirmation of the discussed aims and contents of movement education in early childhood remains to be made.
