Übersicht
Vorbemerkung. Einleitung. 1. Das Verhältnis Mathematik/Informatik ist belastet durch eine unbewältigte Vergangenheit und eine widersprüchliche, unübersichtliche Gegenwart. 2. Massive Erfahrungen mit computergestützter Modellierung lassen Wesensmerkmale jeder Modellierung hervortreten. Stützung durch den Computer kann die positiven Seiten der Modellierung potenzieren und ergänzen -oder aber in ihr Gegenteil verkehren. 3. Die Thematisierung von Komplexität ist nicht mit größerer Kreativität, mit Realismus und Authentizität computergestützter Modelle gleichzusetzen; sie bedeutet nicht die Humanisierung von Modellierung; sie als neues Paradigma zu feiern ist verfehlt. 4. Während Informatiker die Mathematik von Turing und von v. Neumann verwerten, in Hard- und Software, in Praxis gießen, steht in der Mathematik etwas ganz anderes hoch in Kurs: die Bearbeitung von Defiziten und Lücken; die Systematisierung mathematischer Erfahrung; der Versuch, die Grenzen der Tragweite mathematischer Begriffe abzutasten und zu erklären. 5. Schlußfolgerungen zu Fragen der Ethik und Ästhetik (beigetragen von G. Pate): Zukunft gibt es nur, wenn wir Gegenwart gestalten, Gewohnheiten ändern und die hemmungslose Innovationsgeilheit bändigen.
