Long-Term Results of Displaced Talar Neck Fractures

Major Fractures of the Pilon, the Talus, and the Calcaneus

Abstract

This review is based on a long-term study initiated by Dr. Thomas Comfort (Fig. 1), who was Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at the St. Paul/Ramsey Medical Center in St. Paul, Minnesota, between 1968 and 1988. Early in his career Dr. Comfort recognized that the eclectic approach to fracture care that was prevalent in the United States after World War II caused too many unacceptable outcomes and did not lend itself to systematic analysis and improvement.
