Abstract

In the early decades of this century some experimental research was carried out, allowing good insight into the embryonic development of the arterial system of the lower extremity. It was demonstrated that the first vessels develop from a preexisting vascular network (Evans 1909). These join to form several vascular trunks of different caliber (Senior 1919; Greebe 1977, 1989).
