Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIG,volume 37))

Abstract

Partial 16S rDNA sequence was determined for the five bacterial species belonging to the genus Azospirillum and were compared to ribosomal sequences from other bacteria belonging to the alpha subdivision of the Proteobacteria. A tree obtained by using the Neighbor-joining method was presented. The five Azospirillum species, A. lipoferum, A. brasilense, A. irakense, A. amazonense and A. halopræferens, were grouped into a significant cluster which has been found to be closely related to Magnetospirillum magnetotacticum and Rhodospirillum rubrum.
