Abstract
Theoretically, CEA of the transplantation type should elicit an immunological reaction very early in tumor development but there are as yet no adequate tests to detect the reaction. The only test available for detecting a reaction in the cancer patient — cell-mediated cytotoxic activity and blocking activity of the serum — is a complex test which cannot be performed routinely. Moreover, indications of the presence of the transplantation type of CEA exist only in adenocarcinoma of the digestive tract.
