Abstract
Modern spacecraft are equipped with large light-weight appendages which in many cases can be modelled as beams and in other cases as thin plates or shells (solar-arrays, antennas, etc.). These appendages cannot be regarded as rigid and they may have a marked effect on the attitude dynamics of the spacecraft. It is then mandatory to describe with sufficient precision the dynamic behaviour of such appendages and their interaction with the main structure of the spacecraft in the frequency range of interest. Similar problems may arise in marine structures and in other cases.
