Abstract

Insurance companies not only examine applications, issue policies and accept money, but also make benefit payments. Concerning the last subject, we must bear in mind that over and above a very high percentage of purely routine payments there are still a number of problematic cases that are the subject of great controversy. Questions of medicine and law are likewise involved in this respect. The economic structure and the reputation of the insurance company are both at stake.
