Zusammenfassung

Der Begriff „Rickettsien“ stammt von da Rocha Lima, der 1916 den Erreger des Fleckfiebers als Rickettsia prowazeki beschrieben hat. Seit dieser Zeit hat sich die Kenntnis der menschlichen und tierischen Rickettsiosen beträchtlich erweitert und umfaßt eine große Gruppe von endemisch oder epidemisch auftretenden Krankheiten. Die Bemühungen um eine einheitliche Klassifizierung der Rickettsien, die heute im System der Bakterien zu der Ordnung Rickettsiales und zu der Familie Rickettsiaceae gestellt werden, sind noch nicht abgeschlossen. Auf Einzelheiten der Systematik und auf eine Erörterung von Meinungsverschiedenheiten in Fragen der Nomenklatur oder der taxonomischen Charakterisierung einzelner Rickettsienarten oder -gattungen muß unter Hinweis auf die neuesten zusammenfassenden Darstellungen verzichtet werden1.
