Photoluminescence of Zinc-Sulfo-Selenide Single Crystals Grown by Sublimation Method

Abstract

Zinc-sulfo-selenide (ZnSex S1–x) single crystals which can be used in blue luminescent devices are prepared by sublimation method and their photoluminescence spectra are measured. Free exciton luminescence is very weak; but, the bound exciton emissions are very pronounced indicating the presence of substitutional impurities in the form of neutral donors and acceptors. The incorporation of Na or Li is observed to enhance donor-acceptor pair transitions where the DAP band of the Na-doped sample is at 12 meV higher energy than the DAP band of the Li-doped sample. The energies of the luminescence transitions decrease curvilinearly with the increasing ZnSe composition x (0.80≤x≤1).
