Abstract

Objects lying in the way of a current as obstacles, or being themselves moved by the current, produce markings on the sediment surface. Here, we can also include the markings made by objects lying or coming to rest on a soft sediment surface. All such markings made by objects on a sediment surface are called tool marks. Tool marks can be divided into 3 types:

  1. 1.

    Stationary tool marks

  2. 2.

    Obstacle marks

  3. 3.

    Moving tool marks
