There is some professional competition between groups, but we cooperate with information and logistics when it’s required. We won’t fight amongst ourselves as long as the money is paid as promised. We have never had any conflicts within my group“ (Shachtman 2009).

If any one of us shoots and kills another, he will automatically be executed and his body thrown to the sharks. If a pirate injures another, he is immediately discharged, and the network is instructed to isolate him. If one aims a gun at another, he loses five percent of his share of ransom.“ Ein anderer Pirat verweist darauf, dass „Anybody who is caught engaging in robbery on the ship will be punished and banished for weeks. Anyone shooting a hostage will immediately be shot,“ (Abdinur 2009), siehe auch Abdi (2011).

Gettleman (2009) verweist darauf, dass „the pirates are increasingly viewed as stains on the devoutly Muslim, nomadic culture, blamed for introducing big-city evils like drugs, alcohol, street brawling and AIDS.“
