Zusammenfassung
Die Grundaussage von Mark Granovetters Studie Getting A Job ist so schlicht wie genial: Es sind nicht die engen sozialen Beziehungen („strong ties“), die bei der Arbeitsplatzsuche und dem beruflichen Aufstieg hilfreich sind, sondern vor allem die weiter entfernten Kontakte („weak ties“). Lose Bindungen bringen Vorteile, weil sie nichtredundante berufsrelevante Informationen liefern. Informationen, die über das hinausgehen, was einer Person bereits durch ihre engen Beziehungen bekannt ist.
