Abstract

This appendix is not intended as a mathematical background for the discussion in Chaps. 7, 8 but only as a recollection of some elementary definitions and properties of stochastic processes in order to make the text selfcontained. For further reading see e.g. van Kampen (1981), Gnedenko (1982), Feller (1968) or Doob (1953) (in order of increasing mathematical precision) as well as the more specific literature given in Chaps. 7, 8.
