Fibrous Dysplasia

Synonym: fibrous dysplasia of the skeleton

  • Chapter
Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors

Abstract

F.D. of the skeleton, congenital and similar to hamartomas, is an intraosseous neoformation, which may be monostotic or polyostotic, of a fibro-osseous tissue. Skeletal lesion may be associated with skin pigmentation spots, early skeletal maturity and (in females) precocious puberty. This quadruple association is known as Albright’s syndrome.
