Zusammenfassung

Die Plazenta im Spannungsfeld zwischen Mutter und Kind nimmt entscheidend Einfluss auf die Entwicklung des ungeborenen Kindes und den Gesundheitszustand der Mutter. Allzu oft wird der Rolle der Plazenta keine besondere Beachtung geschenkt. Doch gerade plazentabedingte Veränderungen, Variationen in der Anlage oder Erkrankungen und damit verbundene Komplikationen stellen einige der Hauptursachen für die maternale und neonatale Morbidität und Mortalität dar. Das Verständnis über Ätiologie und Pathophysiologie, der Einsatz der richtigen diagnostischen Methoden und die Durchführung einer gezielten Therapie kann helfen, die mütterliche Sterblichkeit zu senken und den Ausgang für das Neugeborene zu verbessern. In den folgenden Kapitelteilen werden die wichtigsten Themen der plazentabedingten Blutungen wie die abnormal invasive Plazenta (AIP), die Placenta praevia, Variationen des Nabelschnuransatzes, die vorzeitige Plazentalösung sowie Plazentatumore erörtert.
