Zusammenfassung

Die Erklärung der Zusammenhänge zwischen Prosodie, Syntax und semantisch-pragmatischer Interpretation, die unter Bezeichnungen wie „Informationsgliederung“ oder „Informationsstruktur“ firmieren, gehört zu den Aufgaben der Grammatiktheorie, die sich als besonders schwierig erwiesen haben. Einen der Gründe, die die Versuche zu ihrer Lösung wesentlich behindert haben, sehe ich in der Tatsache, daß eine wichtige Grundfrage, die jede Diskussion von Einzelaspekten notwendigerweise tangiert, bisher noch nicht mit dem nötigen Nachdruck gestellt, geschweige denn beantwortet worden ist, und zwar die Frage nach dem Verhältnis zwischen der Unterscheidung von thetischen und kategorischen Sätzen und der sog. Fokus-Hintergrund-Gliederung (FHG).
