Abstract

We shall consider first the state of stress and the distribution of temperature in the semi-infinite rod x ≫ 0 when the end x = 0 is disturbed by the application of stresses or temperatures which have a time dependence of the sinusoidal form eiωt where ω is real. (Cf. Sneddon, 1958).
