Abstract

On January 27th 1971 high energy proton beams were built up simultaneously in both rings of the CERN Intersecting Storage Rings (ISR) and beam-beam collisions were observed [1] for the first time. The successful commissioning of this installation provides us now with the possibility to study proton-proton interactions at centreof-mass energies up to 62 GeV.

Lecture given at XI. Internationale Universitätswochen für Kernphysik, Schladming, February 21—March 4, 1972.
