Methanol CH3OH, auch Methylalkohol genannt, ist eine farb- und geruchlose Flüssigkeit. Methanol ist der einfachste Alkohol, der in der Natur als Ester in ätherischen Ölen und als Äther in vielen Pflanzenstoffen, z.B. im Lignin des Holzes, enthalten ist.
