Abstract

Kofola once was a response of the Czechoslovak centrally planned economy to the increasing popularity of Coca-Cola and Pepsi. The history of the brand dates back to 1962 when the national pharmaceutical company Galena Opava started to distribute Kofo-syrup to producers of non-alcoholic beverages in former Czechoslovakia. The Kofo-syrup was used as a key ingredient for the Kofola drink. Since the 1960 s, Kofola has been gaining popularity all over the country with various producers producing the drink.
