Abstract

Recent advances in gastroendoscopic examination have led to the easy detection and removal of Anisakis larvae. This technique is widely used to diagnose gastric anisakiasis in Japan. In some patients with severe abdominal pain, however, we have often experienced that the parasite was not detected with this technique. This may be because the parasite has already escaped from the stomach to the intestine or penetrated the gastric mucosal layer.
