Abstract
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are syndromes caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and protozoa that can be acquired and transmitted through sexual activity. In the last two decades, enormous changes have taken place in human sexual activity, resulting in an explosive spread of STDs especially among young people. Today, STDs are the most common types of infections, with about 350 000 000 new cases per year and unparalleled health, social, and economic consequences.
