Samenvatting

De endoscopische chirurgie heeft een vlucht genomen na de introductie van de laparoscopische cholecystectomie in 1987. De verspreiding van deze nieuwe techniek verliep snel en ongecoördineerd. Het ‘point of no return’ was bereikt voordat daadwerkelijke meerwaarde van de techniek was aangetoond in grote gerandomiseerde studies. De focus in het werkveld van de endoscopische chirurgie heeft in de afgelopen twintig jaar vooral gelegen op technologische innovatie en uitbreiding van indicaties.
