Samenvatting

De ziekte van Bechterew, ook wel spondylitis ankylopoetica genaamd, wordt gekenmerkt door inflammatoire rugpijn, die vooral ’s nachts optreedt en ochtendstijfheid veroorzaakt. Hierbij treedt een karakteristieke ontsteking van de sacro-iliacale (SI) gewrichten op die zichtbaar is op de röntgenfoto van het bekken. Tevens zijn er frequent ontstekingen van de perifere gewrichten.
