Abstract
Bij voortschrijdend nierfunctieverlies treden veel levensbedreigende complicaties op. Nierfunctievervangende therapie kan dan een deel van de functie van de nieren overnemen zodat de patiënt kan overleven. Dieetadviezen ten aanzien van eiwit, energie, natrium, kalium, fosfaat en vocht nemen een belangrijke plaats in bij de nierfunctievervangende behandeling. Verder is er veel aandacht nodig voor een optimale voedingstoestand. Daarmee wordt een bijdrage geleverd aan de kwaliteit van leven van de dialysepatiënt.
