Het geheugen is een complexe cognitieve vaardigheid. Informatie moet worden verwerkt (encoderen), worden vastgelegd (consolideren) en uiteindelijk worden herinnerd (opdiepen). Verschillende hersengebieden spelen een rol bij de afzonderlijke geheugenprocessen.
