Abstract

Mario Sancipriano defines himself as a historian, maybe a historian of philosophy or possibly of political thought, but always an assiduous delver into the past. This definition, to be quite frank, seems to me to be far too limited a characterization of him as a scholar. Even though he has concentrated his attention on such thinkers as C. C. von Haller, A. Rosmini, F. R. de la Mennais and J. L. Vives, he has also made an original contribution to the field of phenomenological studies, where he has come up with a theoretical position of his own, especially as regards metaphysical, ethical and esthetic problems.
