Abstract

The 1967 Caracas earthquake had important features relating to the practice of earthquake engineering. Legal decisions involving the accountability of engineers are reviewed. Failure modes in Caracas included pancaking. The story of how a man escaped from the 9th floor of a collapsing building and saved himself and all members of his family is presented.
