Abstract

In the previous chapter, we discussed the fundamental physical processes underlying image sensors and how these processes are used to transform an array of brightness values into an electronic signal. However, in MV systems, the principal imaging devices are not just sensor chips but instead are complete video cameras, which include a tube (vidicon) or solid-state sensing array, its associated electronics, optical components, video signal formats, etc. This chapter examines the various forms of image sensing as a complete image-acquisition subsystem within the MV system.
