Abstract
This paper is devoted to experimental and analytical investigations concerning a one dimensionnal assembly of coupled oscillators, namely Bénard-Von Karman vortex wakes. The latter are shed by parallel identical and equidistant cylinders placed side by side in a row perpendicular to a uniform flow. Our experimental facility consists of a horizontal water tunnel with a section of 20 mm high and 128 mm wide. Hach cylinder being 4 mm diameter and 20 mm length, the physical situation permits us to assume a ID dynamics along the row axis. Quantitative transversal velocity measurements are obtained by Ultrasound Doppler Anemometry (for details on the method, see [1]) performed on a line parallel to the cylinders row. Thus, we obtain spatiotemporal profiles of the wakes oscillations.
