Abstract

Radio recombination lines provide information that is crucial in understanding the distribution of ionized gas in the Galaxy. The new Green Bank HII region survey, which detected > 450 nebulae, is used in conjunction with southern hemisphere surveys to investigate the radial distribution of HII regions, the question of an inner boundary of star formation in the galactic disk, and star formation in the 3-kpc arm.

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory is operated by Associated Universities Inc. under agreement with the National Science Foundation.
