Abstract
Three-dimensional photoelasticity is a powerful but complicated method requiring a great number of steps on the path from the blueprint to the information related to the stress distribution. The presentation attempts to discuss the inaccuracies which are usually omitted in literature because they cannot be submitted to rigorous mathematical analysis.
