Abstract

The investigations of the interaction of small organic molecules (effectors) with biological macromolecules (proteins and nucleic acids) or organized structures like phospholipid membranes constitute one of today’s most active fields in biochemistry. The goals of this research effort are manifold and range from understanding the basic mechanisms and forces involved in the interaction, to the development of compounds endowed with particular properties (pharmaceuticals with antimicrobial, antiviral and antitumoral activities, dyes for medicinal diagnosis, dyes for foodstuffs, etc…).
