Abstract

We present the preliminary results at λ =.9μm (I band) of a more extended near infrared and optical study of the Serpens dark cloud. An amount of 5 stars associated with a cometary-like nebulosity and two bipolar nebulae have been found in a projected area of ~.0052 square degrees. A systematic alignment of the major axis of the nebulae in a direction parallel to the local interstellar magnetic field is found. This result suggests that the nebulae are probably related to mass outflow processes in the young Serpens stars, and that the outflows are influenced by the local magnetic field. The new faint Serpens bipolar nebula is associated with the infrared source SVS4. Unlike the other six Serpens nebular objects, this nebula is oriented in a direction almost perpendicular to the magnetic field.
