Abstract

The BP is only one aspect in a highly integrated cardiovascular system. It is controlled by many variables: cardiac output, peripheral resistance and blood volume, which are in turn controlled by autonomic centers, mechanical factors, hormones and neurogenic reflexes.1 Surgery anesthesia, and cardiopulmonary bypass effect all these variables, and it is not surprising if either hypertension or hypotension occur during cardiovascular surgery or in the postoperative period.
