Abstract

Previous chapters have described the methods required for the extraction and determination of acidic metabolites in physiological fluids. None of the methods described above, except perhaps liquid chromatography of untreated fluid, are suitable for the determination of the short-chain C1–C5 carboxylic acids. This chapter is concerned with the specialized methods that have been developed for their extraction from physiological fluids and determination by gas chromatography.
