The Role of Glucagon in the Treatment of Biliary Tract Pathology

  • Chapter
Glucagon in Gastroenterology

Abstract

Pancreatic glucagon, a polypeptide hormone of the α-cells of the islets of Langerhans, causes glycogenolysis, liberation of catecholamines, and inhibition of gastric and pancreatic secretion.1 Relatively little interest has been shown clinically until now in the marked spasmolytic2–11 and choleretic2 5 12–14 Effects of the hormone.
