Abstract

At the heart of large organizations or movements there is usually a core mythology. Armies, political movements, and religions rely on the core mythology to motivate their members. Hand-in-hand with the core mythology, members are pressured to stay “in line.” To do so means rewards of various sorts: praise, career advancement, and perhaps money. But to question the core mythology risks serious negative consequences.
