Abstract

In the preceding chapters, an interpretation of the method of analysis and synthesis, as explained and practised by Pappus, was outlined. Some of the reasons which have led us to prefer this interpretation were only hinted at there. However, our interpretation can be backed up by a more detailed study of the evidence. Hence our remaining task is to indicate some of the further grounds for accepting this interpretation.
