Abstract
Spontaneous abortion due to cervical incompetence is caused by dilatation of the cervix which allows the fetal sac to bulge down and protrude into the vagina. With this condition abortion occurs within a matter of days and/or weeks. This sequence of events is frequently seen repeatedly in the same patients and usually occurs between the 18th and 24th week of gestation.
