Abstract

In this paper we focus on some implementation issues related to the development of an experimental Object-Oriented Multimedia Information System for an Office Environment which is going on in the R&D laboratories of Bull HN Sud. Multimedia objects in our system are created, structured, filed, retrieved and browsed. In this article we give a quick introduction of the whole system and a brief synthesis of the experience on using the OMT methodology. Than, we describe an Object-Oriented model of multimedia documents, based on the concept of Document Conceptual Structure, which is very useful in the process of efficient information retrieval. Moreover, we discuss in more details the architecture of the working prototype and two important implementation issues: the first one concerns with the development of an advanced browser of multimedia documents using the OLE (Object Linking & Embedding) technology, the second one has to do with our visual programming experience.
