Abstract

The Mth-order signals allow an enhancement of a coherent part of a signal with respect to the background noise. Though it is a pre-processing of information, any classical method must be adapted to the Mth-order signals in order to recover the information of the original signal. The direction finding example shows how straightforward some applications can be.

The major requirements are that the noises must be i.i.d. and independent from the signals. The second order is readily available to any signal processing technique with a linear observation equation. On the other hand, to be able to use higher-order eigenstructures, though Gaussianity is not enforced, powerful simplifications occur if the odd moments of the noises vanish.
