Abstract

The ESPRIT project 8451 Softpar has defined extensions to the HOOD design method to facilitate the design of applications for massively parallel environments. These extensions take into account different models of parallelism like distribution, functional parallelism, parallel processes and data parallelism. They consist in simplifying the Virtual Node concept, extending the execution requests, adding constrained dataflows and aggregate objects, and refining the usage of active objects in a parallel context. These extensions will be assessed in the context of the Softpar project by their implementation in the Concerto/HOOD tool, including code generation, and by the development of a pilot application.
