Abstract

This study addresses the problem of the co-adsorption of a non-ionic surfactant (TX100) and a polymer (hydrolysed polyacrylamide) on a mineral surface (kaolin). This type of system is involved in the formulation of an inverse emulsion in oil recovery.

The mixture of reactants in the aqueous solution is first analyzed, essentially by spectroscopic methods. This is followed by the study of the interaction of each individual molecule on kaolin. The physicochemical approach is centered on obtaining the mixed isotherms in terms of salinity. We did not find evidence for any interaction between the two molecules in the aqueous solution, in the pH range 3 to 7. The mixed adsorption results show that both molecules coexist in a same interfacial volume, with no perturbation. More elaborate analyses of sequential adsorption nevertheless disclose slight differences
