Abstract
Knapp and Hulbert describe ghostwriting in two critical legal arenas: judicial opinions and lawyer-written materials for indigent clients. The authors first explore the complex world of judicial opinion writing, focusing primarily on the use of law clerks to pen opinions for US Supreme Court justices. Then the focus shifts to lawyers who provide unacknowledged legal assistance to clients who cannot otherwise afford it, emphasizing how legal precedent and professional ethics govern such support. The authors conclude by offering reflections on the practice of ghostwriting in the judicial and legal context through the lens of the ethical framework introduced in Chap. 1.
