Abstract

In this penultimate chapter of the book, the focus switches from the past and present into the future of coasts. Rather than predicting how the coast will develop or modelling different scenarios, the chapter turns to the work of Barbara Adam in her expansion of Weber’s methodological work. In particular using her work with Groves, this piece asks where our coasts are heading and whether we need to rethink how we envision the future with the uncertainty of climate change hanging over our heads. The chapter uses case studies from Surfers Paradise again to highlight how our past modern practices continue to pervade our thinking today, and how these will need to change for tomorrow.
