Law Enforcement and Technology

Abstract

The significance of technology in the development of the policing role cannot be denied, nor can it be overstated. Technology has provided the tools needed to better understand the criminal act, and to better protect the community now and in the future. This chapter provides an introduction and appraisal to many of the most common and emerging technologies in policing today. The authors hope that this chapter provides readers a basic foundation for law enforcement’s use and adoption of technologies, and how they forge the way in which policing is conducted in modern day America.
