  • The official publications of the United States are issued by the U.S. Government Printing Office and are distributed by the Superintendent of Documents, who issues every two years the Catalog of the Public Documents of the Congress and of All the Departments of the Government of the United States. This Catalog is kept up to date by United States Government Publications, Monthly Catalog, and supplemented by Price Lists. Bach Price List is devoted to a special subject or type of material, e.g., American History or Census. Anne M. Boyd’s United States Government Publications (New York, 1941) furnishes an excellent descriptive list of the important publications, together with histories of each department, agency and commission. Analytical description of publications also appears in Laurence P. Schmeckebier’s Government Publications and Their Use (Washington, 1939). Out of date, but still useful for earlier statistical sources, is Schmeckebier’s The Statistical Work of the National Government (Baltimore, 1925).
