Abstract

The huge challenges in implementing service improvement are well recognized in the international literature. Overtveit and Gustavson (2002) have called for the development of theory to explain why quality and service improvement is often unsuccessful. While Ferlie et al. (2005) identified professional, social and cognitive barriers to the spread of innovations in health care this chapter focuses on how service improvement may be enabled by organizational climate.
